After more than a century, a Canadian chocolate bar will no longer be in production, adding to a growing list of homegrown chocolate delicacies that have been discontinued over the years.Ìý
Jersey Milk got its start in 1924, when it was developed by Canadian dairy brand William Neilson Ltd. It was only ever made and sold in Canada, according to its manufacturer Mondelez Canada Inc.
The decision comes after consumers have opted to purchase other pure milk chocolate bars such as Cadbury Dairy Milk, said spokesperson Pierina De Carolis.Ìý

With the exclusively Canadian treat coming to an end, many are dejected by the loss of their favourite s’mores option and aren’t ready to let go of this piece of Canadian chocolate history.Ìý

In January, Hershey’s Canada ceased all production of the Cherry Blossom candy, a long-time Canadian candy aisle staple known for it’s oozy light pink cherry syrup filling and a bright redÌýmaraschino cherry, shelled in a milk chocolate exterior.Ìý
The retro yellow packaging had faced grocery shelves for over a century but it is unclear why the company halted its production.Ìý
Other notable mentions include the caramel and fudgy Sweet Marie first introduced in 1931, Malted Milk (which tasted like a malted milkshake) and Pep (dark chocolate with peppermint filling) chocolate bars both from Cadbury,ÌýNeilson Choclairs — an éclair-like chocolate-filled bar with wafer and milk chocolate — at local grocery stores in the mid ‘90s, Maple Buds and Rosebuds (pure milk chocolate drops), and the Smarties Chocolate Bar in 2004 — a solid chocolate bar with mini Smarties pieces.Ìý

How are Jersey Milk lovers reacting?
Some NeilsonÌýJersey Milk chocolate enjoyers say they’re “devastated” by the news of the loss and many say they haven’t seen the Canadian chocolate at retailers in a while.Ìý
“I’ve been hunting for them for camping since the beginning of June. Devastating,” a user said on a .Ìý
“Noooo!! Jersey Milk is my favourite. I haven’t been able to find them anywhere for months. Even before then I could only find them in certain stores,”Ìýanother said.Ìý

The solid milk chocolate bar is versatile and can be melted and used in various sweet treats. The line even has a specific selection with larger squares of chocolate made for s’mores.Ìý
