Police have not released a suspect description. Bartlett said he could not comment on any evidence seized while officers continue to examine the large scene and review video.
Residents who live near the McDonald’s at the corner of Eastern and Woodward avenues reported hearing nothing of concern, but one visitor to the neighbourhood said she dropped by the restaurant Saturday around 7 p.m. to grab an iced coffee and the place was packed with customers.Â
“You got sort of a feeling that things were going to go bad, because it was just too busy,” said the woman who was attending a nearby festival and asked not to be identified.
Bartlett urged the “literally hundreds of people” in the area around the time of the stabbing to contact investigators if they took video footage or saw the incident unfold.

Jim Rankin/ɫɫÀ² StarSunday morning and well into the afternoon, the entire restaurant and its large parking lot were cordoned off by police tape. Unfinished meals and drinks sat on a half-dozen patio tables and takeout bags, including children’s meals, lay on the ground. A lone can of beer rested on a planter.
Customers arrived Sunday to find one of their go-to restaurants closed, and left saddened to hear a young person had died.
“I don’t like this kind of sad news,” said a customer who had placed an online order for pickup and cancelled it when she saw all the police tape.
It was unclear whether the stabbing occurred at the restaurant.
Forensic officers spent hours documenting the scene, and paid close attention to two of the restaurant’s doors. A drone was used to capture the scene and a police dog used to search for points of human contact around the restaurant.
Orange police evidence markers were placed inside and outside the restaurant, and officers spent time searching for and photographing fingerprints on glass doors and near a walk-up takeout window.
