Pezzetta, six-foot-one and 219 pounds, is known more for his fists than his scoring touch. He had no points in 25 games for Montreal last season, but he had 24 penalty minutes.

It’s a low-risk signing for the Leafs, who may see him as a replacement for 38-year-old Ryan Reaves. Reaves is on the last year of his deal and spent the final part of the season with the Marlies.

Pezzetta is 27, and has 200 NHL games to his credit over four seasons, all with Montreal. He has 15 goals and 23 assists in his career.

He was suspended for two games in 2022 for an illegal check to the head of Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie.

He missed games last year both due to injury and being a healthy scratch.

Pezzetta played in the GTHL as a kid, both with the É«É«À² Nationals and Mississauga Senators.
