A 67-year-old man is dead after a tanker rolled into the ditch on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Grimsby early Saturday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police Const. Taylor Konkle said the fatal single-vehicle crash involved a tanker tractor trailer loaded with malt and water.
Konkle said the driver was approaching Christie Street in the Hamilton-bound QEW lanes at 1:36 a.m., on Saturday, when the truck left the highway and rolled on its side into the right-hand ditch.

He said the driver of the truck, a 67-year-old man from Belle River, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.
Heavy tow truck crews remained on scene most of Saturday to remove the truck and trailer from the ditch.
Konkle said the driver was trapped in the cab and due to safety concerns around the position of the truck, the coroner was unable to reach the driver to make a pronouncement of death until the cab was removed from the ditch.
All Hamilton-bound lanes of the QEW were closed at Bartlett Avenue for the recovery and investigation, but the highway was expected to reopen by 5 p.m.
Konkle said police continue to investigate the cause of the crash and added the OPP collision reconstruction unit was on scene. Police will be reviewing traffic cameras and questioning witnesses.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP’s Niagara detachment at 905-356-1311.
