Guests: Blue Jays bullpen catcher/coach Luis Hurtado, Jays Director of Amateur Scouting Marc Tramuta
This week in Deep Left Field, we go over a second straight 6-1 Week That Was for your ɫɫ Blue Jays, who more than doubled their lead in the American League East while on the tail end of a 10-game win streak that ended Wednesday afternoon in Chicago.
Bullpen catcher/coach Luis Hurtado joins us to talk about the work that Alejandro Kirk put in (with his help) in the off-season to become baseball’s best defensive catcher and to regain the form at the plate that has put him in the top ten in batting average and returned him to the all-star game after a two-year absence.
Also, we talk to Marc Tramuta, who will, for the first time, be running the Jays’ amateur draft next week. For the second time in six drafts, the Jays will be picking in the top ten, a place they hope not to be again for a long time. Tramuta discusses how they evaluate and what they’re looking for and tries not to give us any hints about who the Jays might pick.
