Longtime Blue Jays colour commentator Buck Martinez is returning to the broadcast booth after taking nearly three months off to deal with some health problems.
Martinez is set to make his Sportsnet comeback Aug. 8 when the Jays play the Los Angeles Dodgers, his co-commentator Dan Shulman announced on the broadcast of Friday night’s game.聽
“The thing I get asked more than anything else is 鈥楬ow鈥檚 Buck? When is Buck coming back?’ 鈥 Shulman said.聽

Shulman told viewers that Martinez, 76, has been dealing with “health matters” but he has still been “watching every single second of every game.”
鈥淗e鈥檚 thrilled to be coming back and I know the players, the coaches and the fans are all thrilled to be getting him back, as are we,鈥 Shulman said.
Martinez, who began commentating in 1982, called his last game in May and was set to return at the end of June but had to postpone due to a “little health setback.”
鈥淲hile I鈥檓 feeling pretty good, I am going to take some extra time off out of an abundance of caution. I hope to see you at the ballpark soon. As always, thanks for all your love and support!” Martinez said in a statement on June 30.
When Martinez left on May 28, the Jays were one game under .500 and struggling to keep their head above water in a crowded playoff race. He now returns to a first place ball club sporting a 64-46 record.
