VANCOUVER - Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and England’s Alex Hales are among the international talent joining Canadian cricketers in the inaugural Canada Super60 tournament in Vancouver next month.
Malik and de Kock both are former national team captains.
Six teams — the Brampton Blitz, Mississauga Masters, Montreal Royal Tigers, Vancouver Kings, É«É«À² Sixers and Whiterock Warriors — will take part in the Oct. 8-13 tournament at B.C. Place Stadium.
Super60 matches last about 90 minutes with each team batting for 10 overs (60 balls), making for all-action contests with batsmen swinging for the boundary in search of runs. In contrast, the Global T20 Canada tournament, which debuted in Brampton, Ont., in 2018, features the 20-over version of the game.
Canadian cricketers competing include Harsh Thaker, Dilpreet Bajwa, Ajayveer Hundal, Navneet Dhaliwal, Nicholas Kirton, Kaleem Sana and Shreyas Movva.
“The quality of players signed sets an outstanding platform for Canadian cricketers to learn and compete alongside global stars,” Cricket Canada president Amjad Bajwa said in a statement. “The player power of this league can take the game to new heights across the country.”
Cricket Canada is backing the event.
