“It’s always hard to have a precise idea of what you have to do, because a lot of it depends on what the girls ahead of me do,” said John. “It’s points, right? So it’s interesting how it all adds up at the end. 

“I definitely need a strong finish. I need top-fives. I need top threes, another win. I need to throw some stuff like that in there. I think it’s very doable.”

The 25-year-old John is in her second year on the Epson Tour and has made 10 cuts in 17 starts this season with two top-10s, including a win at the Four Winds Invitational on Aug. 1. 

She said that her plan is to stay the course this week at the Senator Course of the RTJ Golf Trail at Capitol Hill in Prattville, Ala., then next week at the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout and on Oct. 2 at the Epson Tour Championship.

“This is a time where you can either start fixing things and feeling like you have to change. People start pressing and avoiding the moment,” said John. “So I think more than anything, it’s just kind of being almost short minded. 

“You know what you have to do, but at the end of the day, the most important shot is at your feet, and moment to moment.”

John attributed her win at the Four Winds Invitational and a tie for ninth two weeks later at the Wildhorse Ladies Golf Classic to the unusual decision to play without a caddy for a month.

“I have had a wonderful caddy, Troy Neas, but I just felt like I needed a bit of mental space, not because of him, for any reason, just for myself,” said John. “I feel like that just simplified the game a little bit for me, and maybe getting back to what I do when I play my best.”

Brooke Rivers of Brampton, Ont., ranked 26th on the Race for the Card points list, is also in the field at the Guardian Championship. 

They’ll be joined by Maddie Szeryk (44th) of London, Ont., Monet Chun (70th) of Richmond Hill, Ont., Josee Doyon (94th) of Saint-Georges, Que., Mary Parsons (108th) of Delta, B.C., Brigitte Thibault (129th) of Rosemere, Que., and Yeji Kwon (155th) of Port Coquitlam, B.C.

LPGA TOUR — Savannah Grewal of Mississauga, Ont., is the lone Canadian in the field at the Kroger Queen City Championship. She’s 141st in the Race to CME Globe standings heading into play at TPC River’s Bend in Hamilton Township, Ohio.

PGA TOUR — Fall ball begins with the Procore Championship with four Canadians in the field. Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., is the highest ranked, sitting 65th in the FedEx Cup standings. Adam Hadwin (136th) of Abbotsford, B.C., Adam Svensson (162nd) of Surrey, B.C., and Ben Silverman (163rd) of Thornhill, Ont., will also play Silverado Resort (North Course) in Napa, Calif.

KORN FERRY TOUR — Sudarshan Yellamaraju of Mississauga, Ont., leads the Canadian contingent into the Simmons Bank Open. He’s 13th on the second-tier tour’s points list heading into play at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. Myles Creighton (23rd) of Digby, N.S., Vancouver’s Stuart Macdonald (46th), Matthew Anderson (61st) of Mississauga, Etienne Papineau (114th) of  Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., and Roger Sloan (124th) of Merritt, B.C., are also in the field.

CHAMPIONS TOUR — Calgary’s Stephen Ames and Mike Weir of Brights Grove, Ont., will both tee it up on Friday at Sanford International at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, N.D. Ames is 41st on the Schwab Cup points list and Weir is 79th.

PGA TOUR AMERICAS — A.J . Ewart of Port Coquitlam, B.C., is the top Canadian on the third-tier Americas Tour heading into this week’s ATB Classic. He’s 25th on the Fortinet Cup standings. There are 22 Canadians playing at Northern Bear Golf Club in Strathcona County, Alta.
