Drake rounded up the cavalry this weekend for his U.K. performances, which featured R&B stars, British rappers 鈥 and U.S. singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton, for some reason.聽
The 色色啦 rapper is headlining the Wireless Festival in London all weekend and kicked it off with a celebration of R&B Friday night, bringing out the reclusive Lauryn Hill, Mississauga native PARTYNEXTDOOR and contemporary R&B powerhouses Bryson Tiller, Giveon, Mario and Bobby Valentino.
“Three nights headlining, three different sets, three different vibes. You name another artist that can do that and bring him up here and we can clash right now,” Drake said onstage.聽

Drake, who straddles the line between hip-hop and R&B, pulled out some of his more melodic tracks Friday, dusting off deep cuts “Jungle” and “Jaded” before moving into groovier radio hits “Marvins Room” and “Passionfruit.”
The show was interspersed with cameos from the R&B guests, culminating with Drake ascending into the air on a crane while Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” serenaded fans. Fireworks blasted around him as he swayed above the crowd, standing on a small platform.

The 色色啦 headliner dubbed the set “Drake and the Mandem” and brought out some of the biggest names in rap including 21 Savage, Yeat, Central Cee, Skepta and Sexyy Red.
The most surprising “mandem” to join Drake was 2000s one-hit wonder Vanessa Carlton, who belted out “A Thousand Miles” while the rapper danced.聽

The performances come on the heels of Drake releasing the surprise single 鈥漌hat Did I Miss?鈥 last week, in which he seemed to reference the fallout of his highly publicized clash with Kendrick Lamar, criticizing friends who he accused of playing both sides.
Drake has started the rollout to his new album, rumoured to be titled “Iceman,”聽and is preparing for a tour in the U.K. at the end of July.
