TORONTO - Andy Kim, Jane Siberry, and rock trio Triumph are among the new class set to join the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Nine music creators will be part of this year’s Legends Induction Series, which recognizes songwriters who helped define Canadian culture and shape the global soundscape.
The Legends Induction Series is a spinoff of the main Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame event, which takes place every second year.
While some inductees will be honoured at the Meridian Arts Centre in É«É«À² on Oct. 17, others will be recognized at another event held at the Espace St-Denis in Montreal on Nov. 17.
Tickets for the É«É«À² event are on sale now through Ticketmaster.
That’s where Kim will be celebrated for composing “Sugar, Sugar” and “Rock Me Gently,” while the Mississauga, Ont. act Triumph is set to be toasted for their co-penned tracks “Magic Power” and “Fight the Good Fight.”
Poetic songwriter Siberry’s musical repertoire includes the sombre anthem “Calling All Angels,” while Gino Vannelli’s soul-pop confections include “I Just Wanna Stop” and “Black Cars.”Â
Ian Thomas will be honoured for songs such as “Painted Ladies and “To Comfort You,” which was covered by Bette Midler.
In Montreal, the McGarrigle sisters will be inducted alongside film and TV composer François Cousineau, who also worked with a young Celine Dion, as well as “Lovin’ You Ain’t Easy” writer Michel Pagliaro and Indigenous trailblazer Florent Vollant.
Guest presenters and performers will be announced in the coming weeks, as will the nominees for this year’s breakthrough songwriter award, which recognizes emerging Canadian talent.
