Hamilton police responded in force Friday for a double shooting downtown that left one person dead and sent another to hospital.
Jackson Square and a swath of King Street East were closed off as police searched for a suspect last seen fleeing north on James Street North — the area slated to host a busy Art Crawl event Friday night.
Video of the area posted online showed multiple ambulances, police cars and other emergency vehicles stopped on King Street East in front of the mall shortly after 6 p.m.

Police officers, some with guns drawn, could be seen running up the outdoor stairs to the second level of the mall.
Residents posted confused questions online after Jackson Square mall was closed earlier in the evening, with others relating they had been asked briefly to stay inside the library.
The suspect remained at large as of 7:30 p.m.
