At the time, JahVai was in bed, snuggled at his mother’s side. He sat up to investigate the source of the sound and, within moments, was struck by a stray bullet that pierced through the window of his family’s second-floor unit, his mother said.

Speaking from É«É«À² police’s downtown headquarters on Wednesday, police Chief Myron Demkiw announced that a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be identified under the Young Persons Act, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with JahVai’s death.

Police say the boy was 15 years old at the time of the shooting. 

Investigators are still searching for two more suspects: Ibrahim Ibrahim, 17, and Amaril Lindner, who was 17-years-old at the time of the shooting but has since turned 18. Both are wanted for first-degree murder.

Police say they have obtained judicial authorization to identify the two young suspects.
