Maple Leafs forward Max Domi, seen here celebrating the overtime winner in Game 2 of their series against the Ottawa Senators last spring, has an injury that’ll affect his participation in the early part of training camp.
Max Domi鈥檚 participation in the early part of Maple Leafs training camp will be limited, said GM Brad Treliving, after the forward 鈥渢weaked鈥 something over the past few days.
鈥淗e has a lower body injury,鈥 said Treliving in a meet-the-media greeting to kick off training camp. 鈥淲e anticipate it’s day to day. We anticipate he鈥檚 probably not going to practice in full tomorrow (Thursday), but hopefully shortly thereafter he will be good to go.鈥
Domi was the only one of the 73 players who reported for medical and fitness training who won鈥檛 be good enough go in full when training for the team鈥檚 108th season begins Thursday.

It鈥檚 somewhat of an early setback since Domi was expected to start camp on the top line, replacing Mitch Marner on a line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.
鈥淢ax not being able to hit the ice tomorrow will certainly impacts a little bit, but I don’t think it would be too long before he’s back out there,鈥 said coach Craig Berube. 鈥淗e’s definitely one of the guys that we鈥檇 consider giving a look there and see what he can do.
Berube suggested newcomer Matias Macelli might get the nod if Domi isn鈥檛 ready to go.
鈥淲ith a guy like Mitch out of the lineup, you’re looking for somebody that can make plays and guys that can pass the puck, make a little give-and-go with Matthews and Knies,” Berube said. “Maccelli is a good playmaker. We know that and we’ve seen that.聽
Stolarz deal?
Treliving said the team remained in talks with goalie Anthony Stolarz on an extension and it sounded as if the two sides are close.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been engaged with Anthony and his representatives,鈥 said Treliving. 鈥淣othing to announce today. Well, I have nothing to announce right now. We鈥檒l see what the day brings. We’re hopeful to find a good outcome.
Stolarz is in the final year of a two-year deal that pays him $2.5 million. The 31-year-old was the team鈥檚 top goaltender when the playoffs started last year, but injuries have been his bugaboo.
