Would you take a boat to work? The CEO of Ports ɫɫÀ² says commuter seabuses to the suburbs are a possibility

Waterfront ɫɫÀ² launched a study in 2023 looking at the feasibility of running seabuses across the harbour for a start. A local pilot project could launch as early as next summer.

Roelof-Jan Steenstra arrived in ɫɫÀ² about three years ago to run the city’s port, and almost immediately he noticed something strange.

The traffic everywhere was terrible, then he’d look out at the lake and it was more or less empty. Virtually nobody was commuting by boat, aside from the ferries taking people back and forth from the islands. It didn’t make sense to him that ɫɫÀ² is right on the water, but barely uses it.Ìý
