About me
Name: Christina
Gender: Female
Age: 49
Looking for: A long-term monogamous relationship with a man.
I’m a mother of a lovely son in elementary school. My ex lives in the neighbourhood and we work well as co-parents. For my job, I work with students who are hard of hearing, and I love it.
I’m the kind of person who likes to deconstruct racism before brunch; challenge, respectfully, someone’s world view over cocktails; and still have time to soak in a hot tub while discussing the ethics of AI or the beauty of the writing in the latest book I’ve been reading.
When it comes to free time, reading is my drug. I’m more into complex characters and moral ambiguity than a thrilling ride with dragons or vampires, although if written well, I will read anything.
I’m passionate about social and political justice, and I love margaritas. I’ve hitchhiked in several countries, toured the Sydney Opera House, been drenched in monsoons in Mumbai, danced on beaches in Italy and kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland. I have friends I’ve known for over 40 years. I can type over 200 words per minute. And I got my first cellphone in 2018. I couldn’t care less about social media, so if someone is all about posting on Instagram, it probably won’t work. I’m not up on any kind of trend.
I eat healthily and swim and do kettlebells for exercise.
I can cook amazing lentil pasta or plan an exciting adventure or come up with a creative solution to a problem that doesn’t seem fixable. I listen. I compromise. I’m loyal and will defend anyone I love in a battle. A great partner is someone who enjoys my company and I enjoy theirs, regardless of what we’re doing.
My dating history
I was with my son’s father for 10 years. We split about two years ago. When my son was young, I simply didn’t have the time to date. Now that he’s getting older and is more independent, I would like to start again.
What I’m looking for in a relationship
I love feeling safe and being cared for. Being supported emotionally and having interesting discussions. He would think I’m amazing, and I would think he’s amazing, regardless of our idiosyncrasies. Our day-to-day lives would be predictable and stable, but we would plan exciting outings, like going to a play or going away for a weekend.
I’m looking for someone who is kind. Someone who has a lot of empathy. The kind of person who might feel sad when a stranger misses a bus. The kind of person who might ask a kid who’s all alone to come play with the group of kids their child is playing with. Someone who understands himself is important, too, particularly his emotional self. He can’t be scared of emotions.
I’d like someone witty and smart. I also need a person who can discuss ideas and who cares what’s going on in the world.
Oh, and I would absolutely love a partner who reads fiction, and not just genre fiction. Reading nonfiction is good, too.
In terms of deal-breakers, I care about animal rights, so I probably wouldn’t work well with someone who hunts and drags home carcasses.
Why I’m doing it this way
I’m excited about this series because I’m hoping to bypass dating apps! I’m also hoping since only readers of the ɫɫ Star will respond that I can find someone who cares about current affairs and likes to discuss ideas.
Maybe we can cuddle up with the Saturday edition together soon?
LIGHTNING ROUND: 5 questions for Christina
What three movies or TV shows would you take to a desert island?
“Pride and Prejudice” (the BBC version), “Dirty Dancing,” “Schitt’s Creek”
What was the last fun outing you had?
The beach with a friend and our sons. The water was lovely. The sand was piping hot. The ice cream was yummy.
What are you most afraid of?
I’m very claustrophobic. I had to push kids out of the way to get out of that tunnel at Ripley’s Aquarium in the children’s play area.
What is your favourite food?
Garlic naan is the best thing ever invented. Bread and garlic: what more can I say? Add some tikka masala; it’s even better.
If you could spend the day with one celebrity, who would it be and why?
Percival Everett. His book “James” is on my list of top five books ever written.
