Newfoundland and Labrador lifts evacuation alerts for areas affected by Kingston fire

The province says in a social media post that communities near the fire, including Western Bay, Ochre Pit Cove, Kingston and Small Point-Adam’s Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove, no longer have to remain on alert.
The wildfire forced residents out on Aug. 4 and destroyed nearly 200 structures in several communities across a 15-kilometre stretch of coastline on the northwest shore of Conception Bay.Â

All evacuation orders for the area were lifted by Friday, when the fire was classified as being held, but it remained under an alert.
Many residents who have returned to their communities so far have found nothing left of their homes except for concrete foundations and still-standing chimneys.
The wildfire was the second one to hit Conception Bay North this summer, with the first destroying about 11 homes in the town of Small Point-Adam’s Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove in May.Â
