Once officers arrived they found the victim, a 55-year-old man from Newmarket. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers previously said one driver remained at the scene and was co-operating with police but upon further investigation, determined another driver had hit the cyclist and fled.聽

The driver of the second vehicle, a 45-year-old man from Newmarket, was charged with failure to stop after accident resulting in death on Tuesday.

The section of the highway where the collision occurred is very dark,聽Staff Sgt. Mike McKeraghan said Sunday morning.

聽鈥淭here鈥檚 no overhead lighting, there鈥檚 some construction going on,鈥� he said.
