A 19-year-old man is facing charges after a crash tied to suspected racing on Highway 401 left one person dead and three others seriously injured in ɫɫÀ² overnight.Â
According to a OPP news release, the crash involved three vehicles — a passenger vehicle, a disabled passenger vehicle and a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) truck — on the highway’s eastbound lanes near Dixon Road in Etobicoke around 1:15 a.m.Â
The MTO truck was parked behind a disabled passenger vehicle when another passenger vehicle crashed into the truck, police said. MTO contractors were helping with a broken-down vehicle on the side of the highway at the time of the crash, a spokesperson told the Star.Â

Police believe other vehicles were possibly “involved and racing” leading up to the crash, investigators said. Speed also appears to be a factor in the fatal crash, a police spokesperson told the Star.Â
The driver of the passenger vehicle, a 19-year-old man from Vaughan, has been charged with dangerous operation causing death and dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
Eastbound Hwy. 401 was closed at Eglinton Avenue, as well as the Hwy. 401 eastbound on-ramp at Carlingview Drive but reopened just before 11:30 a.m. police said. The northbound Hwy. 427 at Hwy. 401 has also reopened.Â
The MTO’s thoughts are with those injured in the crash, the ministry added.
