A 21-year-old driver from É«É«À² has been arrested, the OPP said, adding the incident in Halton Hills “could’ve easily resulted in a fatal collision.”Â
A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday after a “shocking” dashcam video released by police from another vehicle caught a black sedan barrelling the wrong way down Highway 401 in Halton Hills.
The black sedan raced down the highway, moving east down the westbound lanes around 6 p.m.,
According to a video released by the OPP, the driver side-swiped several vehicles and narrowly avoided others before he ultimately crashed into a light post, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said, adding that other drivers were forced to take evasive action.Â

He left his car and fled the area on foot but was arrested shortly after, according to Schmidt.
Nobody was injured in the incident, the OPP said.
“You only have moments to react and something like this is not something you would expect to see on the highway,” Schmidt said.
The 21-year-old, from É«É«À², has been charged with dangerous driving, failure to remain and driving the wrong way on divided highway.Â
“This shocking video could’ve easily resulted in a fatal collision,” Schmidt said. “It could’ve resulted in a tragic outcome.”
