Opinion | Can the Blue Jays afford to depend on Jos茅 Berrios in the playoffs? Right now, the answer is no

Jos茅 Berrios was supposed to be the Jays鈥 best pitcher this season, but he ranks last among qualified big-league starters with a 5.27 ERA. On Thursday, he surrendered six runs to the Rays in just two innings.


ST. PETERSBURG鈥擳he Blue Jays鈥 crucial four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays got off to an inauspicious start and once again most of the blame fell on the right arm of Jos茅 Berrios.

The Jays鈥 opening day starter hit yet another bump on what has been a treacherous road through the 2022 season. Every time there appears to be a glimmer of hope that the high-upside starter has figured out his issues, something happens that causes the doubts to start creeping back in.
